Creative Critical Reflection

1.     How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

My commercial uses conventions because it has someone come in to help the person struggling. It also uses conventions by having someone gluing together something. My commercial challenges conventions by not using regular glue and instead I used gorilla wood glue from the beginning. I also used a superhero instead of a gorilla. The social groups my commercial represents is anyone, but mainly men. Men usually build things and that is what wood glue is for. It is also for everyone because, other people can use wood glue and I was in the commercial along with one other girl so, that shows anyone can use it. It represents issues by showing that girls can do things mainly men do.

 2.     How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?

My commercial engages with audiences in many ways. One way is we make sure to talk loudly and really show the gorilla wood glue, so they know what we are selling. I also added enough time at the end to really show the bottle of gorilla glue. I wanted to sell how strong the wood glue was, so I made sure to talk to the audience directly. I would distribute this commercial on the sports channels or regular channels such as, ABC or CBS. These channels get views from the regular everyday people, and the sports channels get views from men who naturally build things.

 3.     How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

My production skills developed tremendously over this project. One way my production       skills have developed is I have learned more about filming. My filming skills have improved a lot throughout this project. I have learned more about how to shoot angles, and how to make a scene look as good as possible. I have also learned a lot about editing and how to cut off unnecessary scenes to save time. I also learned how to do voiceovers and how to add music over my video. Overall, I learned a lot about production and my skills have definitely developed.

4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

I integrated software, hardware, and online in this project in many ways. I integrated        software by using an editing app. I used this app towards the end of my project, I used it to edit my commercial and add my voiceover, and my music. The editing source I used worked well when it came to cutting down the videos to get to 30 second. I used hardware to record my commercial. I used my phone to film the commercial and it worked well. I also used my computer to edit the commercial. I used my online resources to research facts about gorilla wood glue and how they normally film and edit their commercials. I also used the online to see how I could best edit my commercial. So, I integrated a lot of technologies in this project.
