Critical Reflection Questions
Creative Critical Reflection
1. 1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
My music video uses conventions because it is upbeat and fun. My music video shows two girls dancing around and doing fun activities. This is just like the regular music video, in the way that the girls are enjoying themselves. However, it does challenge conventions because, it does not have a serious side to it, and some music videos like to show that side of the song. I wanted to keep it upbeat to go with the song. There are also no boys in this music video, with pop music there tends to be boys or girls as love interests in the video. My music video represents social groups and issues. The main point to the song is that girls want to have fun, this is a social issue because girls do not always get to have fun because they are looked at to take care of everyone and be responsible. My music video challenges those issues by showing that girls can have fun.
2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
My product engages with the audience in many ways. One way is it feels like you are hanging out with the girls. The way it is filmed makes you feel like you are having fun with them. We would also sometimes look at the camera and smile to make it look like we were smiling at the viewer. Little details like these really make the audience feel included. The music video would be distributed on YouTube. I feel this would be the best platform because then people can view it whenever they want and however many times they want. YouTube is also where most music videos are posted, so I think that would be the best platform to distribute it on.
3 3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
My production skills have strongly developed through this project. I have
learned how to create a story in a short video, how to angle the camera the
best way possible, and so much more. I enjoyed figuring out how to best show
each scene. I learned more about editing and creating smooth transitions to keep
the upbeat tone going. I also learned more about angles and how an angle can
increase the appeal of a scene. Overall, I learned a lot during this project
and my production skills have developed.
4 . How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
I integrated technologies,
software, hardware, and online into my project. I first integrated hardware by
using my phone to film. Then I used my computer to edit the video. I used
software to edit my video. I used an editing app on my computer, and I cut down
my scenes to make the whole thing 1 minute long. Then I added transitions to my
video. I also used it to help me design and add to my music video. Lastly, I used
online resources to find the original music video for the song. I also used it to
figure out how they edited and recorded the music video. I did this so I could
do it differently then them and so I could understand the song and how they wanted
to show it. So, I integrated technologies in this project a lot.
