Storyboard Blog for (Live)

This is the storyboard for me and my partners short film. We worked hard to make sure we added all of the important plots and scenes into the images and summaries. The storyboard is going help us better film our project and get a better understanding of what it will become. The first page of our story board is the opening of the short film. In this page there are images of a television and streets. This is when Lily the main character finds out an asteroid is coming to Earth and will kill everyone. She then runs out the door to go to the first place she thinks of. She knocks on the door of the house and a boy opens. She explains to him what she has truly always felt. In the next storyboards Lily is with her best friend Charlotte beginning their list they had made when they were younger of things they have always wanted to do. They steal car keys from Lily’s house and they practice driving. They go to the mall and kiss a person they don’t know. They also get hair dye and have fun i...

Short film research: Are you still there? By Rayka Zehtabchi & Sam Davis/Drama

Image
The short film starts off with a girl in her car singing a song. It goes on for about a minute. She gets to a location outside of a gas station and gets out of her car after turning it off. The title shows and the music fades out. It shows a focus on the steering wheel, with the background blurred. It shows people going in and out to make the time seem like it's going back longer than it actually is. When the girl comes back, the camera shows a close up of her jets going into the ignition. She tries turning her car on but it won’t work. A lady bangs on her window, yelling at her in Chinese and it shows a two-person shot of them screaming back and forth. She calls her mom, but you only see one side of the conversation, however you hear both, so there is a non diegetic sound. There is an overhead shot to show the location. There is also a jump cut when they show her car battery not turning on. The actor calls triple A, but at the word of her dad silence starts. Makes it seem like h...

Short Film Research: Pregnant Pause by Alice Seabright/ Drama

Image
I researched for drama short films on Short of the week. I found all four on this same website. The first I selected was a 13 minute movie about a girl whose boyfriend at the time gets her possibly pregnant. However, she doesn't have kids, but her boyfriend does. He makes her not wanting kids a deal breaker, so she leaves the apartment. Throughout this movie there were certain things that stood out. This includes: At the beginning, to give reality to the film, they include peeing sounds as she is sitting on the toilet taking the test. To make it more realistic as well, they include her heavily breathing as she is taking the pregnancy test, like most do in this same situation. Her outfit consists of pjs which makes it seem like it wasn’t planned. The setting includes a bedroom, bathroom, street, etc. During the conversation with her boyfriend just before she leaves, there are many two shots, and reverse shots during their conversation. Doing this allows the audience to see who is ...

Short film research: Mahalia Melts in the Rain/Drama

Image
This short film is by two people: Carmine Pierre-Dufour & Émilie Mannering. It is about Mahalia, a 9 year old girl. She feels different from all the other girls in her ballet class. She wants to boost her confidence. In order to do so, her mom brings her to a hair salon. With the sole intent of getting her hair straightened for the very first time. The beginning of the movie starts off with piano music playing in the background, and the teacher counting 1,2,3, etc. The camera pans as it goes through all the ballet dancers. Following them, and then cutting to Mahalia, sitting by herself with her mom. It has a close-up of her face as she is talking to two of the little girls. You can see the sadness in her eyes as they talk to her. It stands still for the most part throughout the movie. It jumps cuts from the ballet studio, to her standing outside all alone. She is now not only wearing a ballet outfit, but a pink coat too, with her hair in a bun. There is a reverse cut between ...
