Comparing 9, the short, and 9, the full-length movie
We started off first with watching the short film,9. It was only about 10 minutes long and there was no dialogue during it. When I first watched the film, I thought that there would be some dialogue. Doing, or having would increase the quality of this short film greatly. Not only would it make it better, but easier to understand what the plot is. There were many times throughout this short film where I didn't know what was happening. I didn't know what was going on or the plot throughout the whole film. It was hard to follow without any dialogue.I had to resort to watching the characters' body language in order to understand what was happening. Maybe the little noises the characters made for each emotion would have been better. But that isn't very easy when they're little rag dolls. If it had this dialogue it would be easier to understand, but they would also be able to add lots more. Dialogue is a major contribution in films. Without it, they can almost seem plain and look like there wasn't much work put into it like this one did. It is like a bagel without cream cheese, but when its added it makes it 100 times more enjoyable. Other than the dialogue me and my partner agreed that this was all in all a pretty good little short film for what it was. Now for the actual full movie, you can see a major difference in many areas. The first thing, there's dialogue of the little rag doll characters talking to each other. This added a lot of details to the movie just as I had thought and stated before. Next on the list of differences, a much clearer story line and plot. You could see an actual ending the characters were trying to get to. We were introduced to a great amount of new characters that all played their separate roles in the film. But we also saw some recurring characters from the short film. There were actually a few small spoilers in the short film that didn't benefit the long movie. For example we saw how some characters died and also the numbers on the backs of characters hanging up. Of course we thought everything was better in the full length movie, however, both were fun to watch and had their own good aspects that set them apart.
