Short film research- Suburbia/drama
This short film includes sound, mise-en-scene, and editing that will relate to our film as well. The first thing is the diegetic sound. This is used in drama films to convey the emotions of the film. In this film the sound is used to show the suspense and the frighten he is feeling. There is also a non-diegetic sound used to show the surrounding emotions of the film. The film uses baby sounds from a distance to make the audience uncomfortable. Then there are gunshots and people running to also add an uncomfortable emotion to the film. The mise-en-scene used in the film is from the costumes in the film. The man is wearing regular street clothes and the girl is also wearing regular clothes. All of the characters wear what they are playing, so it represents their characters. This is mostly used in drama to show the true ways the characters in dramas behave and respond to emotions in their regular lives and clothes. Common editing in drama that was used in the film was continuous editing. This was used to follow the man through his efforts to find what is happening around him. The emotions the man is feeling is revealed through all of these elements. The sound adds to the suspense he is feeling. The camera angles and editing both add to the frustration and concern he is going through. All of these will be added to our drama as the short film commences. The film will have some of the same editing as we want to make the audience aware of possible occurrences. The film will also need mise-en-scene to add to the characters in the film. It will make them grow faster in the short amount of time we have, to show the characters emotions. So overall we will be including a lot of the elements used in this short film drama.
