Finishing Editing

Image
Planning Blog 12: Karli Norkin Before adding the music I had to purchase it. I had to make sure it was in my editing website. I had to buy two songs. I started with the song that comes on in the car. This one was hard to make sure the beat matched with where it was in the car. I had to cut down the song in the beginning. I had to then line up the song and fade it. Then I had to go through the next couple of scenes until the final scene in the montage. I then cut the song off at the end of that scene on the paddle boards. I had to then fade the song at the end again. I had to make sure it didn't end abruptly. After I faded it I had to then edit the last scene and make it shorter so it would meet the five minute minimum. I then added the final song into the clip. I faded the beginning and end so it would go together. That was it for that day, the next day I began to finish with the titles and the voiceover. I added the beginning titles with two titles in the first clip. Then I made t...

Beginning of Editing

Image
Planning Blog 11: Karli Norkin The beginning of editing started with us putting in our clips. We had to put them in order. We started by putting all the clips in. Then we began to cut them down. We started editing on my computer. So that was the computer we had to always edit on. We had to choose the best scenes to input from what we filmed. After we cut most of them down we had to decide the best transitions for the clips. Some clips did not need transitions. They only cut to the next scene. The ones with the transitions we had to go through them to decide. We needed to add in the music as well. We had to finish cutting down the scenes in order to figure out the music. We found some difficulty with some of the scenes and the sounds in them. We needed to increase the sounds in some of the scenes with lines. The wind made it hard to hear them talk. Increasing the sound in those clips took some time. I had to listen to each clip and increase it slowly with each clip until it was perfect....

Ending Filming

Image
Planning Blog 10: Karli Norkin The last scene to film was the beach scene. The scene opens with a setting shot of the beach. It shows the time of day and where they are. Then it cuts to Lily sitting on the sand. She is talking to her dad who is not there. She is saying her goodbyes and having an emotional moment. When she is talking to her dad Natalie walks up behind her. She then meets her and sits down. The angle switches to behind them. Then as they continue to talk it switches to the side to mainly show natalie. Then the scene cuts back to their backs with the water in front of them. The newscaster would now come on with the voiceover. The two girls now look at each other with shock. The camera then tilts up to the sky. It then slowly pans to the side and tilts back down. It is now showing the sand, water, sky, and buildings. This was supposed to be used for the titles, but we have figured out that needs to go in the beginning. We filmed that scene leaving extra time for where we w...

Final Day of Filming

Image
Planning Blog 9: Karli Norkin  After the hair dye film we had to finish the day with the paddle boarding. We filmed us getting on the board then moving around the water for a bit. This was the end of that filming day. Now we had to film another day to complete the whole film. We did this the next Friday. We decided there was only a bit left we had to film. This included the goodbye scene with Charlotte and Lily and the scenes with Noah or Natalie as we changed it. We started with the goodbye scene. We filmed this infront of some trees and bushes making the location unclear. We filmed the conversation with over-shoulder shots and wide shots. We then ended that scene with them hugging. The next scene we needed to film was Lily running to Natalie’s house. We filmed Lily running through the street then turning into her house. We then cut to her running up to the door. She then stops for a second to create anticipation. Then she knocks on the door. This is all filmed behind her with the...

Finale Bucket List Filming

Image
Planning Blog 8: Karli Norkin  Filming the beach scene with the best friends was very easy and quick. The beach was very nice visually. There was also a deck Rylie could stand on. While Lily and Charlotte ran down it into the water. The plan when filming was to keep the camera as still as possible in this scene. We wanted it to seem as if you were standing there watching them. Then we had the camera tilt up into the sky as Lily entered the water. This gives more anticipation for the viewers and leaves them not knowing exactly what they were doing. Then we had to film the scenes set at the house. We started with the scene where Lily and her mom find out an asteroid is coming. We filmed this before our hair was green. We decided on a pan angle to get the television in before we show their faces so the audience will know what they are looking at when they find out. We made sure the angle the camera was at was in a way you could see Lily and her mom at once. Once we filmed this s...

Filming Bucket List

Image
Planning Blog 7: Karli Norkin Once we filmed the beginning in the car we needed to begin driving. There were two lines in this scene. Between Lily and Charlotte. Lily says “I’ll hit the gas.” Charlotte says “I’ll hit the radio.” Then Charlotte plays the song. This involves editing for us. We wanted the sound to first play through the car. Then we wanted it to play through the actual sound as if the audience was in the car. We wanted it to seem as if the watcher was there. This involved important editing and timing. We had to stop the song in the car exactly where the beat of the song was to make sure it went together. We wanted to make it smooth. Editing also would be important in the end with putting the songs together at the right times. We then needed to film more scenes of the bucket list. We moved from that parking lot to the other shopping center. There we filmed us looking at the hair spray. We would film the hair spray scene later. We needed to find the right angle to sho...

Filming Beginning Scenes

Image
Planning Blog 6: Karli Norkin We decided to wait for the kids to move. Luckily they moved after a few minutes and we were able to film the scene of Lily running to Charlotte and Charlotte running to Lily. We first filmed Charlotte sitting on the end of the slide. Then we filmed Lily walking toward the park until she sees Charlotte and then she begins to run towards her. Then we switched the camera angle to make it behind the shoulder of Charlotte. Then when Charlotte talks we switch the camera angle again to behind the shoulder of Lily. We continued doing that throughout the conversation. Then Charlotte pulls out the bucket list. The camera then cuts to the full view of the bucket list to show the viewers exactly what is on it. This shows them the order the rest of the clips will go in. They both then agree they need to do it all that day. Then in the next scene we needed to drive to the parking lot where the beauty store is. We needed to film the car scenes in this parking lot. The sc...

Filming The Beginning

Image
Planning Blog 5: Karli Norkin  Monday we began filming. We started with the scene in the park. We met at Rylie’s house and we discussed the plan for filming that day. We decided the park scene was the best place to start. Then we would go to an empty parking lot to film the car scene. After the car scene we would go to the beauty store to shoot the scene where we buy the hair spray. This would work well because there is a big parking lot where the beauty store is. The parking lot also ended up being very empty so we could film the driving scene. After that scene we actually needed to buy the hair spray, and unfortunately there was none at the beauty store so we went next door to the party store and they luckily had hair spray. We then went to the closest beach which was about twenty minutes away. These were all a part of our plan. After the beach we would go back to Rylie’s house and do the hair spray scene. We would also do the paddle board scene on the water. This would all line ...

Beginning to Film

Image
Planning Blog 4: Karli Norkin The scheduled day for filming was Monday. We began filming that day. The day and night before there were mix ups once again with the actors in our film. We needed two other actors. Rylie and I needed to find someone each. We could not find an actor to play Noah as I said in my last blog. We were thinking we could find a girl to play Noah and change the gender. It would not change the story, only the genders. We do not want to do that if possible but it may come to that. We have Charlotte and we have begun our filming process with her. I am playing Lily after a long debate between me and Rylie. Neither of us wanted to be in the film to a certain extent. Unfortunately we could not find enough actors to fill the places of the characters. We still needed someone to play Charlotte and we could not find enough people to do everything. We ended up going with Me as Lily, Charlotte played by my friend Sasha, and Noah (Natalie) played by Rylie. We decided we would f...

Filming Days and Actors

Image
Planning Blog:3  Filming will begin on Sunday and we will start at Rylie’s house. This is where we will meet the actress who is playing Lily. She will meet us at Rylie’s then we will film the scenes that are at her house. We will not be able to film all of them because there is one with Noah. We will only have the house slightly in it for the scene with Noah on Monday. We now have to change the schedule because once again we have to find different actors. The issues coming up in scheduling is related to the lack of actors we have. Being only a group of two and needing three actors and someone to film is resulting in complications. We are having our main issues in finding a boy to be Noah. We have had many different people say they would be in our film then drop out at the last minute. This is understandable and we expected complications along the way. We were not prepared to have extra actors as backups each time we found people. We should have planned out who could act in our film...

When we can Film

Image
Planning Blog: 2 My partner and I worked together to complete our filming schedule. We finally had a week that worked for both of us and our schedules. Our film has specific times of the day we have to film. Parts of our film are at specific times as written in the script. Because of the asteroid coming we had to set a time it was supposed to hit and the time it was going to get hit and destroyed. We made it so it would be during the sunset. We wanted it to be pretty for the film and the scene that is happening in the time it is supposed to hit. This created an issue for me and Rylie. We had to plan days that we could film until sunset that worked with the actors and my partner and I. This proved to be difficult with our schedules because we all were available at different days and different times. We planned one day where Rylie and I would be able to film with the actor who is playing Lily. We do not need a Noah for this day. We only need Lily, Charlotte and Lily’s mom. This will...

Filming Preparations

Image
Karli Norkin  1/12 blog Production Blog: We have started our preparations for filming. My partner is Rylie Barnhardt, we worked together to write and prepare our film for taping. We are now in our final preparations before we film our short film. We have worked together on our social media websites to make a place for our viewers to express their opinions and emotions. They can all go on the media sites to see more about the film because of what we provide for them to view. My partner Rylie and I worked together to help the audience feel a part of the film. We made sure the designs expressed the film as best as possible. We used original pictures to show our film. The pictures are key parts of the film. They each represent the film's details and clips. We have planned out the days we want to film. We wanted to make sure it was a day that worked for us. We also still had to find actors that would work with the script and the characters. This took some time and is still making...
